Tourist Locations and Delights Of Alappuzha May 09

Alappuzha, better known as the Venice of the East is an important tourist location in India; in fact a pearl in India’s tourist map. Rich in cultural history, Alappuzha even had trade relations with Greece and Rome in BC and in the Middle Ages. A land that veins itself with stretches of backwaters fringed by coconut palms; labyrinth of lakes, lagoons and freshwater rivers makes it an exotic tourist location.

The most delightful experience at Alappuzha is of course it houseboat cruises. The houseboats moving silent, un-disturbing the waters are the ones that evolved from the Kettuvallams of the olden times. The Kettuvallams (boats with knots) are nothing but boats held together with coir knots, they were used as rice barges capable to carry tonnes of rice or spices.

But now, these traditional barges have transformed to peaceful water-habitats with all the creature comforts of a nature inspired hotel that floats on water with facilities including furnished bedrooms, modern toilets, cozy living rooms, kitchen and balcony for angling.

Boating on these houseboats, one can enjoy a peaceful voyage along Kerala’s famed palm-lined backwaters through the quiet, water-bound villages and the state’s lush rice bowl, Kuttanad, is a peaceful dip along the simple lifestyle of the people here which is far cry away the busy crowds of the people in the cities of India. Top tourist attraction is the annual boat race, Nehru Trophy Boat Race featuring snake boats racing each other in the Punnamada lake. Read the rest of this entry »

Travel Tips for Exploring the Islands of Maldives Aug 09

Maldives Islands. Kuramathi Island Resort

Ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau advised Maldives visitors to approach with pious awe and profound reverence, writing that Man is Nature’s guest in this Paradise. Even the most ambitious resort developers have taken Cousteau’s advice to heart, working in harmony with Nature as they created some of the world’s most exotic and luxurious five-star accommodations. Residents and visitors alike tread lightly on these “miracles of rare device.”

In truth, Maldives holiday-makers never need leave their resorts to take-in all the islands’ joys and wonders. The Indian Ocean laps against guests’ front yards, and the sapphire-blue waters beckon from sunrise until long after sunset. Renowned for their friendly hospitality, resort staffers deliver every island delight to guests’ retreats, and they willingly collaborate in romantic adventures of all kinds. When curiosity ultimately gets the best of visitors and they inquire, “What should we do?” residents and hoteliers respond with just one word: “Explore!”

Hop from island to island.

Travelling the Great Ocean Road Jan 30

Travelling the Great Ocean Road

Travelling the Great Ocean Road

There is no time like now for checking out this magnificent section of Victoria’s coastline. The Great Ocean Road was added to Australia’s National Heritage list in 2011. Unfortunately, due to natural erosion by strong winds and rough seas, parts of the natural limestone stacks and archways have already crumbled away.

The Great Ocean Road was built by returned soldiers after World War I as a war memorial between 1919 and1936. Here is showcased some of our most spectacular coastline runs, extending through several national parks. Stretching from Torquay to Warrnambool, near Portland, the road is a popular route for tourists and there are some excellent walking tracks, making this trip perfect for hikers and campers.

4 Basic Tips for travelling in Australia Oct 11

Australia is an exciting country to explore whilst travelling, but it can also be extremely dangerous. Australia is known for having extremely dangerous flora and fauna, which can cause serious and even fatal injuries. But this danger is easily preventable by thorough preparation and using common sense.

Australia Wild Nature

Regardless of where you’re travelling to, read up on the local area and the dangers within that area. For example, if travelling to Uluru, find out about the local fauna and flora that may present a risk. Do not unnecessarily risk your life by being unprepared.

When investigating your travel destination, take note of the safety recommendations for the area. Also, learn how to respond to potentially life threatening situations. For example, if you are bushwalking as part of some Great Ocean Road tours, learn about various spiders that inhabit the area and how to respond if bitten. That way, if the worst-case scenario arises and you, or you travelling companions are bitten, you know how to respond in this emergency situation. This preparation may save your or your travelling companion’s life.

You should also take note of the weather conditions expected for when you’re travelling. Whilst you may feel comfortable doing some Melbourne tours for example, areas such as Melbourne are renowned for their extreme weather, so be prepared.

Snorkel

The waters around Fiji are pristine and sheltered by surrounding islands, which makes them perfect for snorkeling and checking out the range of beautiful marine life under the surface. With temperatures staying solidly above 25 degrees Celsius all year round, you can bet that a little splash in the sea will be just what the doctor ordered as well!

Visit a Village

Fijian villages are spread over many of the islands that make up the nation, which means that while Fiji is technically governed by a president, many of the rural villages still have chiefs and run semi-independently in a much more traditional way. Visiting one of these villages is a must to understand Fijian tribal culture, but remember to pay respect to the chief by taking off your hat in his presence.

Safety Tips for Yachting in Alaska Aug 14

Safety Tips for Yachting in Alaska

A yachting trip to Alaska can be the thrill of a lifetime. Not only do you get to see the beautiful landscape and scenery of Alaska, but you get to see some of the amazing creatures that live there as well – like whales! It could be one of the most exciting trips you ever take, but there are some safety issues that need to be addressed. In this article, you’ll learn several things to do and items to have with you in order to stay safe.
Having a Float Plan

Yachting in Alaska:

The most important thing to prepare before a boating or yachting trip is a float plan. A float plan is a document that describes various details of the trip. Some of these details include a physical description of the boat, descriptions of people on board the vessel, and your itinerary. The float plan is then given to someone not going on the trip. If that person feels that something is wrong or has reason to worry, he or she can contact the authorities and provide them with a document that helps with rescue efforts.

Flotation Devices

Personal flotation devices are a must for any yachting trip, and are actually mandated by federal law. There should be one PFD for each person on board, and they have to be approved by the Coast Guard. If, for example, the vessel happens to capsize or take on water, or you’re thrown into the water for any reason, the PFD can save your life. This is especially crucial in the cold Alaskan waters through which you’ll be travelling.
